Press Release: 27th Annual Charity Bazaar
November 7, 2013
The American Women’s Association will be holding their annual Charity Bazaar on 7 November 2013. Now in its 27th year, the AWA Bazaar will be returning to the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of Hong Kong Jockey Club in Happy Valley for the third year running.
The Charity Bazaar is the biggest fundraising event on the AWA calendar. The money raised from door donations, the Lucky Lai See, the volunteer-driven bake sale and a new ladies gently worn shop is distributed annually to Hong Kong charities which aid or support children and youth, the elderly, the disabled, special needs education or women’s health. In addition, AWA uses the funds raised to offer students from low-income families grants to educational programs.
This year is gearing up to be better than ever with more than 100 vendors offering beautiful jewelry, ladies fashion and accessories, cosmetics, children’s apparel, Christmas decorations, stationery, gifts, toys, wine and much more. The ever popular Lucky Lai See will entice shoppers, as will a new shop of gently worn items to help upcycle much loved clothes too fun to throw away! In addition to the Bazaar activities, the venue offers lovely views of the racecourse during the day, with the AWA bake sale and café overlooking the green track and fall exercisers making the most of the sunshine.
The event will also feature local historian and writer Jason Wordie, who will be introducing his latest book, Macao: People and Places, Past and Present. Mr. Wordie is generously partnering with the AWA by contributing a percentage from the total book sales at the Bazaar, to help those we hope to be able reach out to this year.
The jewel of the Bazaar is the café, which will be decorated by the imaginative styling of Phillippa Haydon from Bowerbird. Her beautiful taste in vases and homewares engage the crowds each year, and her generous support keeps the event new and fresh! As visitors walk around the outdoor living room from Bowerbird, they can sample the array of goodies from the bake sale and food vendors offering sweet and savory treats.
Bazaar opening hours: 10am – 6pm, Entrance: $20
