Press Release: Year of the Woman Luncheon

March 24, 2015

The Hon. Anson Chan will convene an examination of women’s progress 40 years after the first International Year of the Woman was celebrated here in Hong Kong.

Organized and sponsored by the American Women’s Association of Hong Kong, the March 24th luncheon event will explore the same core topics plumbed in 1975: women’s health, employment, education and family issues.

“We are gathering local experts in these four critical areas to see just how far the women of Hong Kong have progressed since 1975,” said Stephanie Bourque, president of the AWA.  “This is the right moment to look back as well as into the future, and the AWA is honored to create a forum for that purpose and to have Ms. Chan lead our program.”

The panel discussion and luncheon at the Foreign Correspondent’s Club, Central, will be moderated by Dr. Rosann Santora Kao, who served as program director for the groundbreaking conference in 1975.

Panelists include Professor Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Chinese University of Hong Kong; Dr. Susan Fan, Executive Director, Hong Kong Family Planning Association; Prof. Agnes Tiwari, Head of School of Nursing and Assistant Dean (Education) of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong; and Anne-Marie Balfe, Talent Leader for Financial Services Asia-Pacific and Asia-Pacific Diversity & Inclusiveness leader at Ernst & Young.
