Join us as we partake in one of the unique Heritage Festival ceremonies, exclusively led for the AWA by tour guide Paul Kwok Lau.
We will travel by MTR to the area of Tung Chung and then a short journey by public bus to attend the birthday of Deity Hau. Worshipers will come from nearby villages to, return the statues of Deity Hau Wong which they have kept in their villages for the past year as their special protector Gods. Accompanying the statues are often large, colourful processions of lion and dragon dance troupes with offerings, flags and banners who will perform in front of the temple.
On arrival we will try to find time to visit the backstage before actors are getting too busy preparing for the stage. After most of the main festivities we will have the opportunity to watch Cantonese opera rituals before the show begins.
We suggest you bring a small packed lunch and liquid refreshment to have along the way. Comfortable walking shoes. Please bring a loaded Octupus card for use on the MTR/Bus.
