Katherine (Kat) McLeod has been sewing since the tender age of ten.  She started with hand stitching a curtain panel for the family cottage, and went on to design and create children’s clothing and dress ups when her first born was 5 months old.  From there she ventured back into her performance arts passion, directing shows and designing costumes for multiple productions.

Throughout the years Kat has had many opportunities to teach women and teens to sew.  She loves empowering each sewer to design and craft their own unique patterns and creations.

Join Kat for two introductory lessons with AWA for one low price!  There are 4 spaces only in this workshop and note - this is a BYOSM (bring your own sewing machine!).

Session 1: 12 November

·         Let’s review the basics:

·         Get to know your machine (because it's your new best friend!)

·  Feeling comfortable with threading up, cleaning and oiling the machine.

·         Sewing Machine “Warm Ups”.  Yes, it's like going to the sewing gym.

·         Cutting fabric.  The Do's.  The Do Nots.  And the creative in-between.

·    Zip it UP!  Learn to LOOK FORWARD to zippers....Instead of zipper dread.

·         Create your very own “Sewing Materials” pouch

·         Homework 1 - Simple projects to practice at home.

·         Homework 2 - Cutting project to complete before Session 2. 

Session 2: 4 December

·         Let’s Gather Together:

·       Reviewing sewing basics, going through questions from November's class.

·         Introduction to “gathers” in sewing projects.

·         Practice your gathers on a waistband sample.

·         Practice your gathers on a hemline sample.

·         Create your very own apron (with gathers)

·         Simple projects to practice at home over the holidays.

ALL FABRICS, INTERFACING, PATTERNS, THREADS, AND ZIPPERS are supplied.

Materials required for participants to bring along to each class:

·         Sewing Machine (that includes a zipper foot)

·         Extension cord

·         Sewing Scissors

·         Small scissors for snipping threads

·         Oil for machine (if you don’t have, we can supply)

·         Seam ripper

·         Needles for hand stitching

·         Pins
