Book Club Open Day

All members, whether you have read this month's book or not, are invited to try out this month's Book Club, where you can get a taste for the types of discussions we have at our monthly gatherings. We meet at Cafe 8, a lovely social enterprise that employs specially-abled adults, so arrive a few minutes early if you would like to grab a drink or snack to nibble on because we start our conversation right at 2:00pm.

 

At this month's Book Club, we'll be discussing "The House of Doors" by Tan Twan Eng. This novel delves into themes of love, betrayal, power dynamics under colonial rule, and finding one's place in a world shaped by complex identities. Questions will be about the historical settings of the narrative,  the use of marriage / travel to hide homosexuality in the 20th century  and the involvement of Colonial powers in the politics of those days.

 

This Book Club is free to attend but we kindly ask that you register so that we know how many seats to save at the cafe.
