In recognition of World Health Day, Sunday, April 7, AWA is proud to offer a variety of unique experiences throughout April in connection to each of the 8 dimensions of the Wellness Wheel

April’s Women In Action event focuses on physical wellness with a candid and informative session on the M word: Menopause. Hear from subject experts Dr. Sarah Borwein and Lisa Tarquini as they separate fact from fiction in a frank and empowering conversation moderated by AWA member Rachel Bourke.

Topics include: how to identify menopause symptoms; when to see a doctor & when to consider a second opinion; current science, benefits and risks with hormone replacement therapy; and nutrition & lifestyle factors that support a healthy transition.

We are please to partner with ACT House of Africa Coffee & Tea to host this event at their new lifestyle space in Wong Chuk Hang. Admission includes a welcome drink and snacks to enjoy.

About Dr. Sarah Borwein and Lisa Tarquini:

Dr Sarah Borwein is a Canadian physician who has lived and worked in Hong Kong and Beijing for more than 25 years. Dr Sarah has a strong commitment to women's health, which she began cultivating as a young doctor working at Women's College Hospital in Toronto. During her time there, she provided care at the Women's MidLife Clinic and was a member of the Sexual Assault Crisis response team. To this day, Dr Sarah continues to advocate for women at every stage of their lives. Most recently, she was appointed to the board of the Karen Leung Foundation, which works to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers in Hong Kong.

She looks after a significant refugee population, is medical advisor to Outward Bound HK, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and the French International School in Hong Kong. 

In 2023, she was recognized as an exceptional female leader by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong Women of Influence awards, winning the award in the Woman Entrepeneur/Non-profit Leader category.

Sarah graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and then obtained Fellowship in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, as well as an MSc in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She successfully recertified as a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Hong Kong in 2005. She is married and has three grown children; she enjoys hiking, travel, Pilates and yoga.

Lisa Tarquini is the Founder of The Menopause Space. A space for anyone impacted by menopause to access resources and support for a positive and healthy transition. 
 
Lisa is a Licensed Menopause Champion with Menopause Experts Group, and a UK Registered Nutritionist with The Association for Nutrition. She has been a practicing nutritionist for over 20 years and has had the privilege of working with elite and olympic athletes for most of her career. In more recent years Lisa has been supporting women in perimenopause and menopause with nutrition and lifestyle for a healthy and positive transition.
