On July 7, 1965 the AWA was incorporated in order to conform to Hong Kong's existing laws governing charitable organizations. From a charter membership of 53, the AWA has grown to almost 1,000 members strong at it's peak, many of whom continue the tradition of service to the community.

As office rents became more expensive in Hong Kong, in 1979, the Executive Board bought permanent office space for the Association at Monticello on Kennedy Road and in 1980 moved in.

AWA and American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) begin a partnership that has endured for 18 years, helping to fund Hong Kong-based charities. AmCham meets annually with AWA Foundation's Chair to discuss the Charitable Donation Committee's recommendations for projects that need funding.

In 2013, as Hong Kong property prices continued to escalate, the Association sold its Kennedy Road location and moved to the Arion Commercial Centre in Sheung Wan. And with a new move, a new website was also commissioned to reflect the changing way we used technology.

AWA Celebrates 60 Years: Celebrating six decades of community and service in Hong Kong, the AWA held its 60th Anniversary Gala on 22nd October at the Aberdeen Marina Club. The evening, featured guest speaker, the Honourable Anson Chan, who recognised the successes of the organisation, and celebrated the power and achievements of women in our community.

The beginning of a new chapter for AWA as we form a charitable foundation with a board of directors formed from dedicated members and non-members in the community to aid charitable projects and programs, as well as students via scholarships.

Despite the pandemic, AWA celebrated it's 65 year with socially-distanced volunteering, outdoor adventures and charitable giving via the AWA Foundation.
