The only thing harder than being an entrepreneur is being a female entrepreneur. She will face funding disparity, gender biases, lack of resources, and pressure on work-life balance. So why does she persevere? And despite the barriers, what are her motivations for long-term success?

Women In Action series invites you to attend Entrepreneurs Pushing Boundaries, an inspiring evening profiling women entrepreneurs who address social issues in innovative ways. Sharing their personal journeys in food tech are Sonalie Figueiras of Green Queen and Source Green, Cynthia Lok of Clean Coffee, and Carla Martinesi of Chomp.

If you are a female entrepreneur, know someone who is, or just passionate about food sustainability, join us to learn what it takes to overcome obstacles and thrive in this trade.

The event is curated by AWA members Garkay Wong and Tracy Myers. The panel is moderated by Garkay Wong.

Non-Members: Please RSVP here.

About the speakers:

Sonalie Figueiras- Serial social entrepreneur Sonalie Figueiras is the founder & editor-in-chief of Green Queen, an award-winning impact media platform advocating for social & environmental change in Hong Kong with a mission to shift consumer behaviour through inspiring & empowering original content. She is also the founder & CEO of Ekowarehouse, the global sourcing platform for certified organic products, with a mission to make safe, quality food accessible & affordable for the whole planet. With over a decade of experience in publishing, digital marketing, organic trade and health & sustainability, she is an eco wellness industry veteran with a keen eye for market trends and a sought-after international speaker and moderator, sharing her expertise on stages across Asia and beyond, including TEDx and Harvard Business School.

Cynthia Lok- Clean began with a motivation to look at sustainability more practically and holistically. "Sustainability in the small things" means that a more sustainable lifestyle can be achieved through simple every day actions, rather than large and complex theories and solutions. Clean's first chapter started with Coffee & Laundry, two essential daily habits of a HK citizen. From the sourcing of our beans, the choice of our milk, our decisions on pricing and packaging, we've made changes to support a more sustainable value chain. Similarly, on the laundry side, we've tweaked the temperature of the water, the choice of detergent and made conscious decisions on the machinery and solutions so that every basket of laundry is contributing to something bigger. We don't have an extensive menu; we focus on making the few things we do the best that it can be. The final product? We think we (probably) have the Best Oat Milk Latte in Hong Kong.

Since the opening of Clean, Cynthia has appeared in numerous media publications including Tatler Asia, Time Out, SassyHK and Courier Media (UK). In addition, she has spoken at university lectures, corporate events (such as HSBC, Australian Chamber of Commerce) as well as radio shows.

Carla Martinesi- Mixed Swiss/Chinese and raised in Switzerland, Carla grew up in the mountains and fell in love with nature. Before founding CHOMP, Carla worked in various F&B roles from banqueting to restaurants to the kitchen and attended EHL and Glion for her Hospitality
