English Conversation - Buddhist Tai Hung College
English Conversation volunteers conduct lively conversation classes and mock interviews with secondary school students and help students feel more comfortable speaking English.
In the fall we conduct Mock Interviews with Form 6. We interact with over 100 students. The goal at BTHC is to have more students go to university and we assist with helping them to prepare for their interviews.
In the spring (January to June) we have English Conversation classes Wednesdays after school with Form 3 students. This is the first year we have had Form 3 students. We only have 16 students but we feel that is the perfect number for easy conversation. All lesson plans are prepared in advance as a team. We all implement the same lesson each week and then talk about how the hour went as we walk back to the train. As a culmination of our time together we have a bowling party at the Pacific Club with pizza, soda and their graduating certificates.
BTHC welcomes us with open arms every year and we are flexible with meeting their needs.
The Difference We Make
Through a year-long program, secondary students practice their conversational English in a relaxed group setting once a week. The students not only improve their English-speaking skills, but have the opportunity to explore current events and Western culture through a variety of activities.
