Potato Printmaking Workshop – Carve, Stamp & Create!
Join us for our Potato Printmaking Workshop and discover how carving and stamping can transform everyday materials into bold, repeatable works of art!
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and carve your own custom stamps using potatoes and simple carving tools. Inspired by traditional relief printmaking techniques, we’ll explore how shape, pattern, and repetition can create eye-catching designs on paper, cards, and fabric.
You’ll learn how to safely carve simple and detailed designs into halved potatoes, apply ink or paint evenly, and experiment with stamping techniques to build layered compositions. From playful patterns and nature-inspired motifs to abstract shapes and graphic symbols, your stamp can be as simple or intricate as you’d like.
We’ll explore how repeating a single shape can create rhythm and movement, and how rotating, overlapping, and layering prints can produce depth and texture. You’ll also experiment with color combinations, gradient effects, and negative space to make your designs pop.
All materials are provided, including potatoes, carving tools, paint, brayers, and a variety of papers. Participants are welcome to bring their own tote bags, tea towels, or fabric items to print on if they’d like to take their design beyond paper.
As your prints come together, we’ll guide you through techniques for clean stamping, proper paint application, and drying methods so your finished pieces are ready to display, gift, or use. Create a collection of art prints, handmade cards, or a custom-printed textile piece to take home.
