Join us for our Geometric Branch String Art Workshop and explore how a simple found stick can become the focal point of a striking stitched canvas artwork.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind mixed media piece by securing a natural branch directly onto canvas and building geometric shapes around it using carefully stitched coloured string. Inspired by contemporary fiber art and organic minimalism, this process celebrates contrast—soft thread against textured canvas, structured lines against the raw unpredictability of wood.

We’ll begin by selecting and positioning your branch to establish movement and balance within your composition. From there, you’ll learn how to stitch linear patterns that radiate outward, forming bold geometric “chaps” or panels around the branch. By layering thread in clean, parallel lines, we’ll create blocks of colour and rhythm that frame and enhance the organic form.

Throughout the session, we’ll explore how negative space, symmetry, and colour placement influence the overall visual impact. Whether you choose earthy neutrals for a calm, natural aesthetic or vibrant tones for a contemporary pop, your finished piece will reflect your personal style.

Participants are encouraged to bring a small branch or stick from home (lightweight and dry works best). We’ll also provide a selection of natural branches, embroidery thread in various colours, needles, and canvas boards for everyone to use.

As your artwork develops, we’ll guide you through secure stitching techniques, methods for anchoring wood safely to canvas, and finishing touches that ensure your piece is ready to display. The result is a beautifully balanced artwork that merges structure and spontaneity—nature stitched into geometry.
