Painted Leaf Wreath Workshop – Nature-Inspired Art from Fallen Foliage
Join us for our Painted Leaf Wreath Workshop and discover how fallen foliage can become a vibrant decorative piece that celebrates the beauty of nature.
In this hands-on class, you’ll work with real, collected leaves and natural materials to create a unique painted wreath. Using preserved or freshly fallen foliage, we’ll explore how organic shapes, natural textures, and seasonal colors can serve as both canvas and inspiration.
Each leaf becomes its own miniature artwork. You’ll learn how to enhance natural veins and contours with acrylic paints, metallic accents, fine-line details, and decorative patterns. Whether you choose earthy autumn tones, soft neutrals, bold modern brights, or a single unified color scheme, your wreath will reflect your personal style while honoring the natural form of each leaf.
We’ll also discuss simple techniques for preparing and preserving leaves so they hold their shape and color. Then, you’ll thoughtfully arrange your painted foliage into a balanced circular composition, considering flow, layering, texture, and negative space to create a harmonious wreath design.
Participants are welcome to bring their own fallen leaves or interesting natural elements such as small twigs, seed pods, or grasses. We’ll also provide a selection of preserved leaves and natural materials for everyone to use.
As your wreath comes together, we’ll guide you through secure assembly and finishing methods so your artwork is ready to hang and display. You can keep the leaves colorful and detailed—or unify the entire wreath with a light metallic wash or subtle glaze for a cohesive, contemporary look.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to prepare and preserve real leaves for painting
- Techniques for painting and detailing on natural surfaces
- Color and pattern strategies that complement organic shapes
- Composition skills for building a balanced wreath form

Leave with a beautiful, nature-inspired wreath and a fresh appreciation for the artistic potential found right outside your door. No prior art experience needed—just bring your creativity (and maybe a few favorite fallen leaves if you would like- we will also have some)!
