Hong Kong-Style Mahjong Beginner Class (with Optional Mahjong Parlor Outing)

Learn one of Hong Kong's most iconic pastimes through this Beginner Mahjong course! Our experienced teacher will have you enjoying this classic Hong Kong version of this game in no time, as you discover what the tiles mean, gain an understanding of the winds, learn how to score a winning hand, and begin to engage in friendly competition. By the end of the class, you will be so proud of how far you have come!  

About this Course 

The three classes will take place at the AWA Member Space on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, (Nov 3, 5, 10), followed by a special bonus outing to play at a mahjong parlor on Nov 12 (this outing is optional).  

About the Teacher

Morlene is originally from the States but has been living in Hong Kong for more than 20 years. She has been an avid mahjong player for many of these years (originally Hong Kong style and more recently Taiwanese and Vietnamese styles), playing with the AWA for the last seven and half years. Morlene not only loves the game herself but also mentoring players of all levels. She runs our Mahjong Meet Up Group at the AWA Member Space every Monday afternoon and moderates our Mahjong WhatsApp Group.  She is excited to combine her enthusiasm for teaching and playing mahjong in this class, where she will share her love for the game with you.  Get ready to add skill and strategy to your luck!

NOTE:  Attendance at the first class (Nov 3 is essential, as it lays the foundation for the course. To ensure fairness to all participants, students who miss this foundation class will not be able to continue the course.
